Artomatic 2024 & Post Brothers
Artomatic 2024 proved to be a spectacular celebration of art and community, once again cementing its status as Washington DC’s premier creative showcase. During the seven-week art festival, 70,000 people visited 8 floors brimming with visual art, music, film, performance, poetry, and fashion created by 1,000 artists.
This year, Post Brothers hosted the exhibition at 2100 M Street, their planned office-to-residential project. Post Brothers played a crucial role in the success of Artomatic, DC’s free one-of-a-kind art extravaganza; offering a premier location in DC’s West End further embracing the festival’s eclectic "by artists, for everyone" spirit.
Spearheaded by its visionary founder and arts advocate, George Koch, the tireless Artomatic Board, and supported by thousands of volunteer hours, the 2024 event offered something for everyone, a reflection of the rich tapestry of talent within the DC area.
“Artomatic continues to thrive because of its artist community-centered approach and the incredible support from organizations like Post Brothers,” said Koch. “This year, the event was particularly special due to the new and dynamic talents we showcased.”
Once complete, the high-end residential building will feature Antony Maderal’s popular art piece 1001 - In Our Own Image in its lobby. Post Brothers acquired the installation's core, an 8-foot-tall 800-pound circuit board-clad 4’x4’x4’ interactive spinning cube constructed of repurposed materials. “Critics, visitors, and fellow artists regarded this piece as one of the showcase pieces at Artomatic 2024,” said Josh Guelbert, Co-COO, Post Brothers. “Displaying 1001 will keep the spirit of Artomatic alive for years to come.”
Antony Maderal captivated audiences with his thought-provoking exploration of the complicated relationship we have with technology, inviting people to spin the giant cube and see themselves reflected in hard drives, heat syncs, and exposed computer boards. Maderal’s past work included 2-dimensional technomosaics, 1001 - In Our Own Image marked a pivot towards massive, kinetic public installations. “Artomatic is an essential supportive community for me as a creator,” said Maderal. “Connecting with artists and art enthusiasts gave me the confidence to build artwork on this scale.”
